The Lead Principal of the Ptolemy Group is Norbert Seals. Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Mr. Seals is a 3rd generation Floridian. He knows the entire state having spent his formative years in Orlando, Florida, and currently residing in Miami, Florida.
Mr. Seals earned a degree in Economics from Harvard University where he worked extensively with The John F. Kennedy Institute of Politics and Harvard Student Agencies. He began his career as an intern for Congressman Lou Frey R-Florida. He has been working in and visiting Washington DC and its environs for over 20 years as a political organizer, corporate and government consultant, and fundraiser. He maintains an extensive national network of contacts from Capitol Hill to “beyond the Beltway” that he utilizes to get our clients’ message heard and supported.
Following a Summer Internship at IBM and an initial Market research directorship with Interconsult, a MIT based tech research firm based in Cambridge, Mr. Seals went on to become the leading Sales Representative in New England and subsequently the youngest TANDY Corporation/RadioShack Computer Store Manager on the East Coast. For good measure he started a computer Consulting firm that he and a partner built into a 15person $2 million plus company.
In 1988, he joined the call to help Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis earn the Democratic nomination for President. Following the election, Mr. Seals moved back to Florida where he quickly established himself as a campaign manager and consultant to over 25 successful campaigns. He worked for Alex Penelas who subsequently became the first Strong Mayor of Miami-Dade County.
During the same period, Mr. Seals established the Ptolemy Group, a management information system firm, which was an offshoot of the prior systems firm in Boston, and served as an incubator for new campaign and business ideas. He then transformed the firm into its present mission to provide strategic communications in the guise of Public and Government Relations to private sector firms seeking Contracts and Legislative Assistance with government agencies and large corporations. In this arena, Mr. Seals has assisted Companies in acquiring numerous contracts and awards totaling over $½ billion in aggregate.
Meanwhile his campaign work never ceased as he served as former Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder Presidential Campaign, State of Florida Campaign Director. He moved from there to the winning campaign of President Bill Clinton, where he volunteered in 1992 and 1996. He served in a volunteer capacity with Al Gore, 2000 and John Kerry, 2004.
In 2007, he had the opportunity to have breakfast and spend some private one on one time with a most inspiring politician, the newly elected Illinois Senator Barack Obama. Seals went on to serve as a volunteer fundraiser and political organizer with the 2008 Presidential Campaign. He continued his role through the 2012 election cycle and established a national office in the Washington DC area where he splits his time with the international Miami office.
Through the years, Mr. Seals has cultivated a bipartisan approach while being appointed to the Massachusetts Small Business Advisory Committee being named to Who’s Who in America, earning a Series 63 Investment Banking License, and being named Outstanding Young Man in America. Mr. Seals has served the Community extensively most recently as the President of the Harvard Black Alumni Society of South Florida. Previously, he has served on the Boards of the Community Concert Association, The Greater Miami Urban League, and the Community Action Agency Foundation.
